Our Role in Melbourne @ 5 million

Melbourne @ 5 Million is the Victorian State Government's plan to accommodate substantial population growth while preserving the city's world-renowned liveability.

VicUrban is helping deliver the Melbourne @ 5 Million plan by facilitating more housing in established areas, particularly along major public transport routes, in activity centres in metroppolitan Melbourn and in large regional centres.

These new residential developments will demonstrate high quality, affordable and sustainable housing.

VicUrban will facilitate these inner area developments by:

• Assembling, consolidating and preparing land in existing urban areas for higher density housing development
• Encouraging a diverse range of housing types, including smaller dwellings
• Supplying competitively priced lots to the housing construction industry
• Working in partnership with housing providers to develop more inclusive residential estates
• Encouraging the delivery of affordable, accessible and sustainable high density housing

Examples of these inner area developments include our Metro Village 3175, the Nicholson in East Coburg and Geelong projects.

VicUrban also renews and grows liveable communities and properous economies in areas of:

• Urban renewal - where existing communities need a comprehensive development approach. Examples include Melbourne Docklands, Revitalising Central Dandenong and Maribyrnong
• Urban growth - to bring more compact, sustainable and affordable homes and places of employment to metropolitan growth areas and regional Victoria. Examples include Aurora and VicUrban@Officer
