Environmental Leadership
To fulfil the needs of people today we must put the environment at the forefront of our work.
VicUrban's role is to demonstrate innovation and leadership in the environmental performance of urban communities.
This means we review such things as the choice of site, the orientation of homes towards the sun, the design and proximity of infrastructure and services and appropriate landscape and planting selections.
This principle of environmental leadership is maintained by recognising that all elements are interconnected.
VicUrban has delivered a number of environmentally focused initiatives including:
- Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) - By adopting smart approaches to water management at many of our projects, including Aurora, Melbourne Docklands, Cairnlea and Tenterfield, we have achieved leading environmental outcomes.
- Lynbrook in south-east Melbourne became the first residential development in Victoria to incorporate WSUD into large scale residential design.
- At Melbourne Docklands, WSUD was established within the precincts of Victoria Harbour, Yarra’s Edge and Batman's Hill.
- Aurora is designed so that every household has the potential to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by five tonnes per year compared to a conventional home.
- Our projects in Officer and Victoria Harbour , Docklands, have been selected as two of the16 global projects of the Climate Positive Development Program, a Clinton Climate Initiative.
