Heathmont Gardens
Redevelopment of former Heathmont Secondary School site
VicUrban is seeking feedback about its application to the City of Maroondah to rezone and develop the former Heathmont Secondary School site in Heathmont Road.
The application proposes to rezone the 3.6ha site from Public Purpose 2 (Education) to Residential 1 and build 66 dwellings in a master planned development that will comprise a variety of townhouse and detached homes.
VicUrban's Vision
VicUrban’s vision for the site is a residential village built within a complementary landscape setting, offering high amenity for local residents and large open spaces to establish an attractive garden environment.
Planned Development
-
The development will have an emphasis on liveability with contemporary style homes featuring efficient floor plans with internal living spaces opening to a north facing, low maintenance private garden. It will re-establish pedestrian linkages between Great Ryrie Street and Heathmont Road
-
Ultimately, the development is expected to house approximately 170 residents
-
VicUrban’s aim is to provide high-quality sustainable housing options, in areas well-serviced by amenities such as public transport, shops, schools and parkland, for all those who may be wishing to purchase a home in the area
-
Open spaces within the development will be large enough to allow large canopy trees to grow to maturity, assisting in the creation of new habitat for native fauna
Community Information
A community drop-in session held on Tuesday 1 June at the Great Ryrie Primary School was attended by more than 70 members of the community. The range of issues raised, included the potential for amenity impacts to adjoining properties, on site parking provisions, the management of existing vegetation and considerations to pedestrian safety.
Community Facilities
Community facilities will also be a key feature of the proposed development, with high quality landscaping and several bicycle and pedestrian links to the surrounding schools, parklands, playground and railway station.
All car parking required for the development will be provided on the site and close consideration will be given to traffic concerns that may arise.
